2024.

The thing with life is that no matter what, the world keeps going. Both good and bad things happen, and we should sit in them for a little bit, but we can’t get stuck in the past. So even though 2023 was a blast and I wouldn’t mind sitting in it more, I need to start the 2024 agenda! This blog post is for me first and it’s supposed to be a time capsule. Because of this, I’m going to be fairly blunt, transparent, and vulnerable. There is my disclaimer. If you are curious what I am working towards this year, read on! J

When I think of 2024, I think of one word.

Trust

For quite a while, I’ve struggled with trust. On the outside, it may not appear that way, but I’ve worked hard the last few years to create a life that was completely in my control, and it caused me to go into quite a place of extreme solitude. Solitude is not a bad thing, it’s great and I think everyone should learn how to do things completely on their own before building a team. The problem is that it led me to not want to fully trust anyone else which puts up walls. One of my favorite quotes is “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I’ve been going ALONE and FAST these past few years. I’m so grateful for what that has done for me in terms of my business, fitness, etc. It’s time to give up trust a little and go further with others.

So, what does this look like?

Personal

  • Building/continuing to build a loving partnership with Kailee. Accepting that I do not have to do everything by myself.  We have goals together to strengthen our relationship. No need to share here.

  • Emphasizing family and friendships and prioritizing making times for relationships outside of work. Not everything is about work.

  • Traveling and experiencing more days outside of work and fitness. Specifically, I want to take 5 trips. 4 are currently planned (or close to it) – Wisconsin cabin retreat, Georgia, Seattle sabbatical, Sacramento.

Business

  • Partnership with three companies (lots of trust and relationship building here) to host Oak services. Real Active Wellness Oak Endurance Location, Performance Running Gym Oak Endurance Location, Thomas Endurance Coaching Online Oak Endurance Location (this one is going to branch me outside of MN). At the end of the day, my goal is to build community and help people as Coach Jacob. 2 days at each location. Sunday off.

  • Launch online strength coaching add-on for run coaching clients

  • Launch 2-3 more classes that are available for people to have access to personal training for a cheaper price. My vision is that the classes allow people to have a strength coach, but also a community at the same time.

  • Re-launch Coaches Corner. A place for endurance coaches to talk with and learn from each other.

  • Docuseries on myself this year as I chase my fitness goals and grow my brand. Working with Joshua Michael Films. First shoot next Saturday. Expect bi-monthly videos.

  • Create and launch a member app with more resources and online calls for clients.

  • 1-2 new certifications, 12 books.

  • Help 500 total people in some way – personal training, gait, online coaching, run coaching, classes, seminars, etc.

Fitness

  • Stay between 190-210 and show the world what it means to be a strong runner that is improving and building community through it. More hybrid, strong and nourished endurance athletes that understand their why and feel safe in their community.

  • Hire a coach to work with on my running. This is the most apparent one. If you don’t have a coach and you are a runner, I’m sorry, but you’re just doing it wrong.

  • No injuries (long-term).

  • Prove myself right and remember that “we get to do this.”

  • Sub 3-hour marathon – races will be GMAS, CIM, possible Indy… TBD. And if I run a 3:03, 3:05, 3:10. Who cares. Doesn’t mean I’m not going to try to hit that BQ…

At the end of the day, my mission is to be a light for the individuals out there that were told they weren’t meant to do something because they look a certain way. I’m here for you and I hope something I do this year will influence you to remember that those comments are insecurities that others project onto you and that you are fully capable.

2024 is going to be big. Let’s go.
